UNFPA letter on the International Youth Day 2009

The UNFPA Executive Director, Thoraya Ahmed, issued a message on the occasion of the International Youth Day - SUSTAINABILITY: Our Challenge. Our Future.

Theatre based Training of Trainers in the field of HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health in Azerbaijan.

On July 8 – 12th, 2009 Y-PEER Azerbaijan in partnership with Association of United Nations Interns Azerbaijan and Medical Doctors and Students (AzerMDS) Public Union held a 5-day Theatre-based Training of Trainers in the field of HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health with sponsorship of “Qarant Sigorta” Insurance Company. The training, led by Ms. Fidan Gafarova, certified by UNFPA Headquarters as a trainer in the field of peer education and reproductive health, aimed at building the capacity of selected trainees to plan, design and deliver high quality theater based peer education training in the field of HIV/AIDS and reproductive health.

Year 2009 marks the 15th anniversary of the ICPD; with only 5 years remaining to meet their commitments, many governments are failing to make progress against these goals, particularly in ensuring that the needs of all young people are being addressed.


Youth Charter on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

YouAct, European Youth Network on Sexual and Reproductive Rights, organised a study session for 35 young people from various Council of Europe countries, in cooperation with the CoE Directorate of Youth and Sport, in Strasbourg, July 2008. The overall aim of the study session was to agree on common objectives and develop effective advocacy strategies to promote young people’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

The main outcome was the attached Youth Charter for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, which outlines the current situation, relevant human rights, young people’s needs and interests, and visions for 11 SRHR topics.
